Contralateral breast cancer (CBC) is today treated as a new primary tumor, independent of the first breast cancer (BC1). However, whether the second tumor (second breast cancer (BC2)) always is a new independent primary breast cancer, or in some cases could represent a metastatic spread from BC1, remains unclear. The most common of these second cancers is contralateral breast cancer (CBC), which is estimated to occur at a rate of 0.5% per year . CBCs are often more difficult to treat than the original cancer because of more resistant biology and inability to reuse previous effective therapy due to dose-limiting toxicities ( 6–8 ). Each year, a new primary cancer develops in about 14 of every 1000 women with breast cancer, and half of these cancers occur in the contralateral breast.

We hereby investigate phenotypical and prognostic features of the second tumour (BC2) in relation to prior endocrine treatment and radiotherapy. PURPOSETo determine the characteristics of patients with unilateral breast cancer who subsequently develop contralateral breast cancer (CBC), to assess their prognosis relative to patients who do 2014-02-11 that contralateral second breast cancer rates range from 10% to 15% at 15 years after treatment and are even higher for still longer-term survivors (4,5).
